We are currently looking for a Technical Architect to join us in shaping the future of digital healthcare through large-scale and nationally significant healthcare projects.

Role Summary

In this role, you will provide technical leadership across complex digital health programmes, working with engineers, delivery managers, product owners, clinicians, clients, and senior stakeholders to define and assure secure, scalable, and high-performing healthcare technology solutions.

You’ll own technical direction across major healthcare projects, ensuring solutions are strategically aligned, clinically safe, interoperable, and capable of supporting patients, healthcare professionals, NHS organisations, and national healthcare services at scale.

Responsibilities

Technical Architecture:

  • Define and own technical architecture for large-scale healthcare platforms
  • Set technical direction across complex and nationally significant healthcare programmes
  • Make architectural decisions across systems, integrations, data flows, cloud services, and applications
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, maintainable, and aligned to healthcare requirements
  • Document and communicate key architectural decisions clearly

Healthcare Integration & Standards:

  • Define integration approaches across NHS, public sector, and digital health environments
  • Lead architecture involving healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 V2 and HL7 FHIR
  • Provide technical guidance on integrations with NHS systems, APIs, and healthcare platforms
  • Ensure solutions consider clinical safety, information governance, cybersecurity, privacy, accessibility, and assurance requirements
  • Help clients and delivery teams navigate complexity within large-scale healthcare ecosystems

Technical Governance & Delivery:

  • Shape technical approaches from discovery through to live service
  • Review and assure technical designs, delivery approaches, and implementation decisions
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and opportunities
  • Balance quality, security, interoperability, cost, timelines, and client objectives
  • Promote strong engineering practices across development, testing, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, release, and support

Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and influence engineers and technical delivery teams
  • Provide clear technical direction while enabling effective day-to-day engineering decisions
  • Support the development of technical standards, reusable patterns, and good architectural practice
  • Build alignment across engineering, product, delivery, clinical, and client stakeholders
  • Contribute to a culture focused on quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Engage confidently with senior client stakeholders, clinicians, technical leaders, suppliers, and partners
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Lead workshops, discovery sessions, architecture reviews, planning sessions, and decision-making forums
  • Provide senior technical input into estimates, roadmaps, proposals, bids, and delivery plans
  • Represent technical thinking credibly in strategic healthcare conversations

Required Skills

  • Significant experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical architecture, or a similar senior technical role
  • Proven experience leading architecture across complex, large-scale healthcare technology platforms
  • Strong experience working with NHS organisations, ICBs, Trusts, healthtech suppliers, or public sector healthcare partners
  • Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability, clinical safety, information governance, and assurance requirements
  • Experience with NHS systems or APIs such as EMIS, Oracle Health, Epic, GP Connect, NHS App, etc
  • Understanding of interoperability standards such as HL7 V2, HL7 FHIR, etc
  • Experience designing solutions for clinical, patient-facing, operational, or national healthcare environments
  • Strong experience designing and delivering secure, scalable, cloud-based applications
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles, integration patterns, and distributed system design
  • Experience with C# and .NET technologies
  • Experience designing APIs, integration layers, and service-based architectures
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, observability, and modern deployment approaches
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, guide technical teams, and take accountability for technical outcomes

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on nationally significant healthcare technology programmes
  • Experience defining architecture strategy across multi-team or multi-supplier environments
  • Experience with containerisation such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with architecture documentation methods such as C4 diagrams or ADRs
  • Experience supporting technical bids, proposals, procurement, discovery, or programme mobilisation
  • Experience coaching architects, senior engineers, or technical leads
