Where NHS login or local identity providers are appropriate, support them; where multi-factor is necessary, prefer factors that work in clinical environments without phones in pockets (for example, hardware keys or desktop prompts). Rather than vanity dashboards of clicks and sessions, align your analytics to end-to-end outcomes: time to triage, time to first appointment, did-not-attend rates, turnaround time for results, discharge completeness, and safety events avoided. Instrument your product so these measures can be calculated reliably, and make them visible to frontline teams, not just executives. When people can see their part of the system improving, they will invest their energy in the product. Close the loop by publishing a regular “you said, we did” that shows how user feedback shaped changes. This rhythm keeps your team honest and your users engaged.

The final pattern is cultural: “partnership over parachutes”. NHS services remember vendors who dropped a tool and disappeared, and they remember the ones who came back to learn, fix, and iterate. Embed your product team in real clinical environments through site visits, observation, and co-design sessions. Sponsor clinical product champions who can translate between worlds and test early drafts. Build structures—user councils, release notes in plain language, roadmaps that invite comment—that make change feel predictable. The result is a product that evolves with care delivery, not one that fights it.
